What bucket width do you need?
Wider buckets move more material but reduce digging force per inch and need more hydraulic power. Narrow buckets dig cleaner trenches and are easier for small machines to pull through hard soil.
| Bucket width | Best use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 8-10 inch | Irrigation, wire, narrow utility trench | Clean trench with less spoil |
| 12-16 inch | General trenching and small excavation | Most common small-machine range |
| 20-24 inch | Drainage, grading, material movement | Good balance of volume and control |
| 40 inch and wider | Cleanup, finish grading, loose material | Use on compatible machines only |
Teeth or toothless edge?
- Use teeth for clay, roots, compacted fill, and first-pass digging.
- Use toothless buckets for cleanup, grading, and smooth trench bottoms.
- Keep spare teeth, pins, and hardware on hand for high-hour work.
- Confirm pin size before ordering a bucket for a non-AGT machine.
